“Bike from the Angkor temples, kayak the Mekong river and ride through the Ho Chi Minh Trail area to Hoi An.”

The latest pioneering trip by Grasshopper Adventures links the Angkor Temples of the Khmer empire with the historical, Unesco World Heritage site of Hoi An. The journey in between offers an amazing diversity of landscapes and overnight stop. From the Mekong basin and remote areas near the Lao border to the area surrounding the Ho Chi Minh trail, the Vietnamese highlands coffee country to the coast. Some great cycling and an amazing array of scenery awaits you on this, newest of Grasshopper rides.

The most recently opened border between Cambodia and Vietnam sits in the triangle area where Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam meet. To celebrate the opening of this border crossing, we are offering this unique trip.

Itinerary
Day 1-3 | Siem Reap to Kampong Cham
After meeting the group in Siem Reap, we cycle to the moss-covered, almost deserted temple of Beng Melea and then onto the provincial towns of Kampong Thom and Kampong Cham. We travel on tracks, trails and secondary roads, avoiding the traffic and seeing the villages and countryside.
Days 4-5 | Cycling Kratie and Siem Pang
we explore the Kratie area, home to the Irrawaddy Fresh Water Dolphins and discover some great local food before cycling to a remote village near the Laos border where we hope to see wild vultures
Day 6-8 | Kayaking the Mekong River, then relaxing in Rattanakiri
We take a half-day kayak through the flooded forest of the Mekong River before we drive to Ban Lung in Rattanakiri, where we take some time out to rest
Days 9-11 | Cycling the highlands of Vietnam
We cycle across the Ho Chi Minh Trail and through coffee plantation country as we pass over the highlands of Vietnam and then down to the coast.
Days 12-13 | Cycling the coast to Hoi An
We visit the My Lai memorial site to learn about the tragic events that changed the American people's view on the conflict and then cycle through fishing villages and rice fields before riding a section of Highway one and then taking the small trails into Hoi An where our journey concludes.
