Cambodia & The Mekong Delta
Bike tour in Cambodia & Vietnam | 10 days Phnom Penh to Saigon | US$1320
Cycle southern Cambodia, Phu Quoc and the Mekong Delta. Discover the contrast of two neighbouring countries.
The Mekong Delta is the rice bowl of Vietnam. Every inch of this fertile soil that exists between the rivulets of the Mekong as it splinters to the sea are farmed. This densely populated area contains lots of small, well made trails with little traffic that follow canals and make for fantastic cycling.
We start our ride in the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, a city with a certain broken charm that is pulling itself out of years of decay and into a prosperous future. We cycle to the picturesque coast of Cambodia where we explore old French towns and Phu Quoc, the last frontier of Indochinese beaches before cycling through the food bowl of Vietnam on small trails and paths to Saigon, the commercial capital of Vietnam. This is a trip for anyone who appreciates contrast in cultures and anyone who enjoys getting closer to the real country on a bike.
Itinerary
Day 1 | Cycle to Takeo
Starting from your hotel, we will cycle south through rice fields to the sleepy provincial capital of Takeo.
Days 2-3 | Cycling to Kep and Kampot
We cycle on quiet roads and trails to reach the coast with French colonial buildings and fresh seafood. We make a boat trip to Rabbit Island for a swim in crystal clear waters. We will pay a visit to Kampot, a small town in the shadow of Bokor Mountain.
Days 4-5 | Phu Quoc & Ha Tien
We cross the border into Vietnam at the southern most border crossing, only recently opened to foreigners. We take a boat to the picturesque Phu Quoc Island where we enjoy some more beach time before our journey north.
Days 6-8 | Cycle the Mekong Delta
We trace the Vietnam-Cambodia border for a day and then criss-cross our way through the fascinating Mekong Delta, where food is being grown everywhere you look. We ride along small trails and paths that only two wheeled transport can travel on and we learn about the traditions of the Delta people. We finish our main ride in Can Tho, a bustling Delta city.
Day 9-10 | Cu Chi Tunnels and Saigon
We visit Cu Chi Tunnels, where Vietnamese soldiers were camped during the American War. In many ways, these were an un-beatable weapon. We take a short ride of the area to see rice paper production, before driving to Saigon, a bustling metropolis and the commercial center of Vietnam.
