Meet at the Grasshopper's Shop
Our tour starts at the Grasshopper shop located up a small alleyway off Hai Ba Trung Street at 8 am.

Ancient District
Our ride begins by exploring the hidden passageways and winding alleyways of UNESCO World Heritage Old Hoi An, stopping to photograph the iconic Japanese bridge.

Countryside Exploration
After crossing first the canal bridge near the night market, we continue pedaling to the new metal bike bridge connecting Hoi An proper and its southern villages. Not far from the bridge, we visit a local family making Banh Dap using the traditional method. These small savory rice flour bowls are a common breakfast staple in the countryside. We continue riding to one of Hoi An's most beautiful villages, stopping at a family home to learn about the tradition of family chapels. Our host is nearly 90 and fought in the American war so he has plenty of stories for us! This is the kind of authentic connection we seek to provide on our tours. Next, we pedal past rice fields and vegetable farms along small canals and waterways towards a boat building site. Fishing is still the lifeblood of the province and the construction of these boats is quite amazing to witness and photograph.

Artisans and Traditional Lunch
The roads narrow again to concrete paths and our final stops include a traditional mat weaving shop and a family distillery where rice wine has been produced in the same manner for generations.

A delicious homemade lunch of Hoi An specialties will be served at a local house. After fueling up, we will cycle along the riverside and board the kayaks.

Kayaking on the Thu Bon River
Enjoy a paddle past water-coconut plantations, shrimp farms and little fishing hamlets. If you’re lucky, you can see the fishermen emptying their nets, which is a spectacular sight. On the way, we will make a stop at one of the little islands to rest and enjoy the views.

We will arrive at the Cam Thanh area of Hoi An, from where our minivan will bring you back to the hotel by 2:30 pm.

The day’s ride is mostly on small alleyways, quiet lanes, and flat tracks, all with no hills in sight. Beginner riders should take care while cycling short sections on small dirt trails.

Quality, well maintained GT mountain bikes with hydraulic disc brakes, water bottle and international standard helmet are provided. These are very capable bikes that are a pleasure to ride and able to carry you in comfort throughout the tour. For groups of 6+ people a specialist Bike Mechanic will also accompany the group.

This tour includes kayaking through the local sights and fishing communities on the Tu Bon River

A delicious local lunch is included. Snacks, fruit and clean water are also provided throughout the tour.

This tour is guaranteed for a minimum of just 2 travelers, and we limit the group size to a max of 10 travelers. This ensures you have the personalised attention you want in an intimate group.

Mike and Yen led a great tour, just what I was looking for. Leisurely biking through the country side just over a bridge or two, followed by 30 or 40 minutes of kayaking. The stops were generally interesting (e.g., making and eating rice paper - bánh đập) or refreshing/nourishing (e.g., pineapple, watermelon, optional salt dipping, an iced Vietnamese coffee, and a cold hand towel hit the spot with the heat!).

The Grasshopper countryside bike tour and kayak adventure was certainly one of the high points of our entire Vietnam tour. Grasshopper tour guide leader Mike was patient and professional and we were appreciative of the two other guides stationed in the middle and back of our group to make sure everyone was happy and safe. When you take the short cycle through the bustling streets of Hoi An old town you will see what I mean!

I was particularly happy with the bikes and how Grasshopper listened to my bike fitting needs. I asked if my handle bars could be raised and they quickly brought out an extension that gave me a comfortable and efficient position.

We were also thrilled that Mike let us stop to take photographs on the tour. The sights were absolutely lovely. We loved meeting the people at our stops, and many times as we passed by homes we were greeted with English “hellos.” The lunch that was provided at a local home was fantastic.

The kayaking along the Thu Bon River gave us another perspective and made us realize just how much Vietnam is a river country. All in all, this was a fun, active and rewarding tour that I would highly recommend.
