But don’t just take it from us… The following is a guest blog post featuring the story of Clotho, who together with her husband and son have been on two Grasshopper tours. Hear from a mother herself what it’s like to explore Asia with us.

My husband and I are avid cycle tourists and we wanted to share our love of bicycle touring with our son. One of the reasons we love visiting a place by bike is the special access it gives us to everyday life not seen by tourists in cars or buses. Cycle travel lets us go off the beaten path at a slow enough pace to stop and chat with local people and to explore whatever catches our eye.  We hoped that exposing our son to this type of travel at an early age would help to instill in him a sense of adventure and curiosity about the world and especially about cultures different from our own.

We currently live in central Asia and we learned about Grasshopper Adventures from our son’s teacher at his international school.  She previously lived and taught in Cambodia and had taken several tours with Grasshopper Adventures. Both of our cycling trips with Grasshopper Adventures have exceeded our expectations! From my very first contact with Grasshopper Adventures, the administrative staff was consistently prompt in their replies and accommodating to my requests. Once we arrived in the country, the cycling guides and the support drivers were exceptionally patient, lighthearted, easy-going and kind.

Our son was six years old when we toured Cambodia and seven when wetoured Vietnam. With the tagalong bicycle, our son was able to experience the joys of bicycle travel without becoming exhausted and we didn’t have to worry about his bike handling skills. 

For both trips, Grasshopper Adventures combined just the right amount of cycling with cultural and interpersonal experiences.  Our favorite moments were those when we spent time with the locals: visiting the social enterprises that our tour fees helped to support, making (and eating) rice paper with a local family, fishing in the pond belonging to the host family of our homestay, and helping to plant seedlings at an organic farm before eating there, too. These moments felt unstructured in the way they evolved naturally.  We came home from both trips already planning future adventures and telling all of our friends about the magic of bicycle touring with Grasshopper Adventures.
