Overview
Most Tasmanians feel that they have a different way of living to those on the mainland. They feel like they are connected to nature and that the pace of their lives is relaxed and peaceful. It is undoubtedly a unique place in the world, where the natural environment is intact and where we are offered lots of opportunities to disconnect from technology and just enjoy the special moments that a journey like this presents us with.
Our bike ride focuses on the east of the island and mostly on the northeast of Tasmania. This area has some lovely backroads and rail trails to ride and presents us with a plethora of places to visit including wineries, galleries, a salmon farm, an oyster farm and much more. It's not just about the ride, it's about really understanding the essence of Tasmania and the culture of those who live here.
We take in the stunning Wineglass Bay and dramatic Cape Raoul on a hike, we ride the picturesque rural areas around Deloraine and kayak sheltered waters on the stunning Tasman Peninsula on our way back from Port Arthur.
This tour won't show you all of Tasmania, but it will show a part of it, really well.
Pedal Assistant E-bikes are an available option on this tour for $300
185 km / 115 mi riding - Crisp, fresh air and lush green surround, complemented by safe and well maintained riding roads. We spend some time on secondary roads where there are some passing cars, and then spend quite a lot of time on rail trails and cycleways that keep us away from traffic. Some of this is gravel, but always well-laid gravel, so nothing technical at all. There are some hills here and there, but no sustained hill climbs.
