Cycle Through the Greenery of Chiang Mai

Pedal along the foothills of Doi Suthep near Chiang Mai on a bike tour for those who just want a relaxing ride in nature. You will see local life, forests and vibrant rice paddies as well as some lesser-known parts of Chiang Mai. Starting from the historic old city of Chiang Mai, cycle out to the forested foothills of Doi Suthep on a laid-back day with a late start.

Further on, pedal along some of Chiang Mai's newest, slickest bike lanes to cycle a forest-covered trail up to the Teung Tao Creek Reservoir. After a spin around the lake, get off the bike for a tasty shoreside lunch and perhaps a swim if you brought your suit. On the way back, cycle through rice paddies and vegetable gardens on small back lanes and alleys to experience a bit of the non-touristy part of Chiang Mai. Take in the green surroundings from the seat of your bike and see another side of this northern Thai city. The bicycle tour ends where it began at the Grasshopper Shop in Chiang Mai.

Tour Itinerary

Start Time: 10 am – End Time: 5 pm

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop

Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures Chiang Mai Shop near Chiang Mai Gate at 9:45 am. The bike tour will depart at 10:00 am sharp. After a quick bicycle fitting and briefing the bike tour is off.

Cycle to the Hills

From our bike tour shop in Chiang Mai’s old city, we cycle west through the city of Chiang Mai and Chiang Mai University towards Doi Suthep eventually biking along wooded lanes at the foot of Doi Suthep.

Huay Tueng Tao Creek Reservoir

Pedaling along dedicated bike lanes, the tour enters a bicycle park with tree covered paths. Here is where we begin the gradual climb up to the Tueng Tao Creek Reservoir. After a cycling around the reservoir, we stop for a lakeside lunch. If you brought a swimming suit, then you can jump in the lake too.

Bike back to Chiang Mai

Biking down the mountain you get a chance to use your brakes a bit. Cycling east to the banks of the Ping River, pedaling through rice fields and vegetable gardens while making our way back to old city of Chiang Mai, cycling on back lanes and alleyways.

Back at the Shop

The bike tour ends in the late afternoon. All bikers get a cold drink at the Grasshopper Shop before saying farewell.

This bike tour uses top quality, well maintained Merida mountain bikes with a water bottle and helmet are provided. These bikes will keep your comfortable throughout the day’s trip.

An experienced English speaking, local leader will host you on this trip who is well spoken, very knowledgeable, and charming. Our leaders are often cited as being the main highlight of the tour. We use local guides who have a passion for their country and are always well informed on topics ranging from history, politics, cuisine and importantly local customs and cultures. Our leaders will take pride in introducing you to every aspect of their country while taking care of your safety and comfort at all times.

A delicious local lunch is included. Snacks, fruit and clean water are also provided throughout the tour.

This tour is guaranteed for a minimum of just 1 traveler. And we limit the group size to only 10 travelers so that you get all the attention you want in an intimate group

We had such a great time on this bike tour. Our guides, Jao and Bond, were wonderful and showed us such a different side of the city. We found areas of Chiang Mai that we never would have discovered on our own, and enjoyed getting to see the markets with a local.
