Exciting news!! Grasshopper Adventures is now part of the Discova travel family. We’ve asked Grasshopper’s Chief, Adam Platt-Hepworth, to answer your 7 most frequently asked questions about this new partnership.
Who Are Discova and what do they do?
Discova is a global Destination Management Company, facilitating the needs of travel agents and tour operators around the world and currently operating in 14 countries in Asia and the Americas.
What is a Destination Management Company (DMC)? In short, anyone booking with a high street travel agent would typically find the agent utilizes a DMC to avail their on-the-ground presence. The experience and local connections with suppliers and services that a leading DMC like Discova provides is something a foreign travel agent simply couldn’t develop alone.
The partnership between Grasshopper Adventures and Discova pools the resources of two exceptional brands, enabling us both to enhance the services and experiences we offer to travel agents and travelers alike.
Is Adam (Grasshopper’s Chief) staying on board?
Yes! I will be remaining at the helm of Grasshopper Adventures. After more than a decade leading the company and crafting experiences through Asia, it’s safe to say it has a place close to my heart! I’m delighted to remain in this key role and committed to the long-term leadership of the business for the coming years.
I have a booking or trip credit, how is that affected?
In short, it’s completely unaffected. All bookings and trip credits remain in place, and we are pleased to deliver this additional reassurance that your tour will be fulfilled and better than ever. We look forward to hosting you as soon as you, and the destination you wish to visit, are ready to go!
What will happen to the Grasshopper Adventures team?
We are delighted that the partnership with Discova includes many of the Grasshopper team! Along with the old faces, there will be some new ones in the mix too, as the merger expands our support and operational capabilities across the region. Rest assured the travel professionals you communicate and travel with will always be distinctly “Grasshopper.”
Will tours change?
Our new partnership leaves the full tour range unchanged. As new adventures develop, access to Discova’s broad operational capabilities will allow us to leverage these benefits, so expect new trips to offer even better support, experiences, and value for money.
What does this mean for the future of Grasshopper?
There are so many exciting possibilities for the future, and how we prioritize opportunities will be shaped by how destinations start to embrace international visitors again. What we can say is that active travel, and bike travel in particular, is more popular than ever, so as the world gets moving again we will have lots of great NEW places to explore.
In addition, Discova has championed a ‘local first’ approach among DMC’s that embraces responsible travel, community empowerment, and supporting local businesses. These are values the Grasshopper team has always held dear, and we hope to pursue some exciting new projects in these areas, as well as address some old goals put on hold due to the pandemic.
