Evening Bike Tour of Old City Chiang Mai

In the cool evening hours, your guide will lead you cycling the quiet back roads to visit some of Chiang Mai’s most famous landmarks in the old city. Visit illuminated temples with chanting monks, Tha Phae Gate and a busy night local market. Along the way, you will sample tasty snacks from local street vendors. The streets are more relaxed after dark, the air is a little cooler. This is one of our easiest tours.

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop

Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures Shop near Chiang Mai Gate at 5:45pm. The bike tour will depart at 6:00 pm sharp. After a quick fitting and briefing we pedal away...

Cycle

Sabai, Sabai is Thai for being chilled out. On the way towards Chiang Mai’s old city eastern gate, Thapae Gate, we'll cycle the old city’s quaint lanes. At this beautifully restored gate learn about Chiang Mai's history as a trading hub.

Three Kings Monument and Wat Inthakin

Pedaling the twisting streets of the old city the next stop is Wat Intakhin with its serene 700 hundred-year-old white Buddha and the Three Kings Monument where you will hear about Chiang Mai’s found fathers.

Wat Lok Molee

Cycle to the city moat. Leaving the bikes by the side of the moat, walk across to Wat Lok Molee with its beautifully illuminated stupa and ornate wooden prayer hall. At this time of day you have a good chance of hearing the monks chanting their prayers.

Wat Chedi Luang

The next stop is Chiang Mai’s grandest monument. Wat Chedi Luang was built to house the ashes of a king and was once the home of the Emerald Buddha (now resident at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok). It is now the home of the City Pillar and 3 auspicious trees which provide protection to the city.

Street Food at Chiang Mai Gate Market

For the last stop a little food tour of the Chiang Mai Gate Market. Walking through the market your guide with point out the different types of street food available. After selecting a some street food to sample sit down with a drink with your guide and enjoy the night market atmosphere.

Return to the Grasshopper Shop

It is really just hop, skip and jump from the Chiang Mai Gate Market to the Grasshopper Shop, but we will ride our bikes anyway. After finishing the tour you can always go back to the market to explore more of the street food delicacies.

The tour usually takes 3-4 hours but this is variable by group. Dinner is not included in the tour but we do include some fun and tasty snacks in little food tour at Chiang Mai Gate Market. We are usually back at the Grasshopper Adventures shop by 10 pm.

Top quality, well maintained Merida mountain bikes with a water bottle and helmet are provided to keep you safe and comfortable throughout the tour.

We bike with you to some of Chiang Mai’s top must-see attractions but without the throngs of tourists. Visit Wat Loke Molee to hear the monks chant, Thapae Gate, Wat Chedi Luang, end the bike tour with street food tasting at Chiang Mai Gate Market. Traveling at night allows for cooler temperatures and fewer tourists.

Nice simple bicycle tour of some highlights of Chiang Mai. Got to try some street food at the end (which was included in the price). Nice to see temples with the night lights in the evening with no crowds and much cooler weather. Although you cannot enter at night, we got pretty good pictures of the outside. Aimy, our guide, explained the history well and taught us quite a lot about each site we visited. Pace of bike ride was comfortable, especially for beginners. Safety was great as there was another guide behind to make sure we were all safe. Not sure how a big group would be like as we were in a small group of 4 in total. Highly recommend though!

This is a great way to see the city and time to go as its a bit cooler. I ended up being the only person for the tour that night and had a wonderful guide(forgot his name)Dinner was also included and after the tour we walked to food night market by their office and had street food, which you could choose want you wanted and I choose Pad Thai which was very good. I would highly recommend Grasshopper Adventures.
