Tour Itinerary

Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures Shop
Our day begins meeting at the Grasshopper shop located in central Nyaung Shwe at 7:45am. After introductions comes a bike fitting, safety briefing, and the start of the Inle story from your guide; then it's off on the bikes.
Cycle the local villages and countryside
After passing through town we begin with a bit of a warmup ride, finding our pace on gravel road following a quiet canal. Cycling out here you'll get to witness genuine local life away from the masses, spot water buffalo, farmers and people on boats going about daily business along the way. As we pedal, red dirt roads open up to expansive views of the countryside that circles the lake, with our surroundings and local activity dictated by the season.
Narrow trails and local sights
Cycling on, we get into narrower trails through bamboo forests and along the edges of fields full of crops and flowers. There is always a lot going on in these villages, including molasses production, rice milling, planting and harvesting. The local kids will almost certainly be out in force to cheer you along, so make sure to wave and throw a smile their way! We'll make sure to have some special stops along the ride to check out highlights and snap some great pictures.
Village food & produce exploration
After moving briefly to wider roads, we'll arrive in the small town of Khaung Daing. Here we'll take a looping ride through the village from house to house seeing medieval bread kilns, tofu production, rice wine distilling, rice cracker drying and maybe some bright red chilies being bagged up for market; there will also be a chance to sample some of these specialties along the way. Here is where the true cultural immersion happens, nestled in the hidden communities of this stunning lake.
Explore the floating gardens by boat
After exploring Khaung Daing and refueling on local snacks, we hop into our long-tail boat along with the bikes for our first trip on the water. This boat ride takes us through the maze of floating gardens unique to Inle Lake that take advantage of ample hydration to grow a variety of seasonal vegetables and greens atop the water. These gardens will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Our boat will then continue on towards our very own secret destination, an isolated peninsula.
Cycle Hidden Inle
Arriving at our special location we'll take to the bikes again, following a little used rural route along dirt trails, beside water channels and rice paddies, getting far off the beaten track into remote communities that seldom see tourists.
Boat out to the lake and local lunch
Following our adventure of the countryside we'll follow a horse-shoe like loop returning to a different section of the lake where our long-tail boat will be waiting to take us out on the water for lunch at a local Shan house. We arrive into a quieter area of the lake among a small stilt community where we can relax and enjoy a truly 'home cooked' lunch.
Kayaking
After a short rest to let lunch settle and soak up the picturesque views across the lake we will then take to the kayaks for a laid back paddle taking us through three villages, floating tomato gardens and across a stretch of open lake. Our long tail will accompany us and give you complete freedom of choice about how far your adventure takes you.
Transfer back to Nyang Shwe
Following our kayak we will return by boat transferring across the lake back to town of Nyang Shwe. The cruise back is a good opportunity to catch some last minute photos of the lake and surrounding valley in the afternoon light. Arriving in town it is just a short ride to conclude our trip at the Grasshopper Adventures Shop, and maybe drop in on a great little place nearby for a refreshing drink to top off a fantastic day's adventure.

GUEST REVIEWS
I did the 1 Day "Bike, Boat & Kayak" in Inle Lake and absolutely loved it! You bike around the countryside and get to visit local families who are the kindest individuals and see their daily hardworking lives. Then hop into a long tail boat to get lunch and kayaking afterwards.
My guide, Sam was brilliant! He was super friendly, informative and a great person overall. I was lucky to have been the only person on the tour that day so got to chat with Sam and learn about his life. I'm not a strong biker and never kayaked before and Sam kindly accommodated to what I was comfortable with and kayaked with me (and pretty much did all the paddling).
Everything was perfect! Would definitely recommend the tour and I would do it again. Thanks for a fantastic day Sam!

We did the bike + boat + kayak tour with Joe and it was brilliant. His English was fantastic and he explained so much about the culture and lives of the local people. The biking part isn’t the easiest, all very flat but the paths are mainly gravel so can be hard work (we are just very unfit!). The boat rides were brilliant, and snacks and lunch was great. We were kept well fed! The kayak part was hilarious, we’ve never done it before and weren’t very good at controlling the kayak, but Joe was very patient and laughed along with us. I took so many photos as everything we saw was so interesting! Overall, we loved it, well and truly shattered, but loved it!

As someone who has done a lot of walking and bike tours with my kids (ages 8, 12, 13)... This one is one of the top. The biking brought us through villages and fields - an interesting ride on minimal roads. The boat ride through the floating gardens was nice. And the kayaking through the lake villages was special. The gear was top quality. The lunch was tasty. And our guide Sam was great. Such a diverse and adventurous day.
