Full Day Bike Tour From Siem Reap

Cycle to the little-visited and ruined temple of Beng Melea on backtracks and through a fascinating landscape.

You have seen the main temples and the sunrise, now see something really different. Come with us on a bike ride through the beautiful countryside that surrounds Siem Reap. Get off the main roads and onto the fascinating red dirt trails that weave their way through the rice paddies and villages towards Beng Melea Temple. This temple is less visited due to its distance from Siem Reap, but its grand ruins are mystical and quite a sight. The ride to get there is a great countryside experience.

If you ride a bike regularly and have a reasonable level of general fitness, then this ride is for you. The distance is approximately 60 km on mainly flat tracks and small roads. We will stop often for photos and refreshments.

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop

At 7am meet at the Grasshopper Shop, just across the river from the old market. Bring camera, sunglasses, sunscreen and comfortable cycling clothes.

They always say that getting there is half the fun and on this trip the getting there is a big part of the fun. Ride a huge variety of roads - sealed and unsealed - as well as small local tracks as you wind your way through beautiful countryside on the route to Beng Melea.

Beng Melea

Built in 12th Century from sandstone, Beng Melea is a sizable temple, orientated towards the east. It has been largely reclaimed by nature with trees and moss covering the ruins. This gives a shady and quiet atmosphere and the lack of other visitors makes this temple a real treat. After lunch and some time to visit the temple, we will drive back to Siem Reap. It is not necessary to hold an Angkor Pass to participate in this ride. Entrance fees to Beng Melea are included in the tour price.

You can expect to return to Siem Reap around 4pm.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Visiting Beng Melea is a unique experience. The temple is far away from the crowds around the main temples and is in a state of ruin both from the ravages of centuries of natural overgrowth and from the Khmer Rouge-era wars. Climbing around the ruined temple should prove be a real highlight of your visit to Siem Reap. Entrance to the temple is included in the tour price.

This is a real back roads route with lots of unpaved village roads that will take you to a very different Cambodia from the one tourists around Siem Reap experience.

Well-maintained, top quality imported GT mountain bikes with a helmet and water bottle are provided.
