Full day Bike Tour in Luang Prabang, Laos

An easy, fun pedal around a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city and its surrounding countryside, local village industries and temples. Explore a highlight of Laos in a day. The old town of Luang Prabang is one of the most beautiful, peaceful and atmospheric cities in Asia. We take to our heritage-friendly bicycles and explore the city through the secret back alleys and lanes, visiting not only some highlight attractions but also some lesser-known points of interest. We gain an insight into the crafts and village industries for which the surrounding countryside is known and top it all off with a delicious Lao meal.
If you can ride a bike, then you will love this ride.

The distance is approximately 18 km on mainly flat tracks and small roads. We will stop often to chat with the locals and learn a little about what everyone is up to. There are lots of snacks and water stops as well as some great river boat crossings.

Tour Itinerary

Start Time: 7:30 am – End Time: 2 pm

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop
We set off from our centrally located shop at 7:30 am. After a quick bike fitting and briefing, we head out. We ride first through the back alleys and quieter streets of the city.

Temples & Markets
We visit Wat Xiengthong, Luang Prabang's royal temple, and then the fresh market where your guide will introduce the weird and wonderful produce on sale. Forest fodder, insects, small frogs and fresh vegetables are all on display, it's really quite a sight.

Coffee Break.
After a traditional Lao coffee in one of the city's oldest coffee stalls, we continue our ride to a lesser-known temple and then out along a road following the Mekong River. We stop to see 'sa paper' making and the distillation of famous Lao rice wine, 'Lao Lao'.

Boats Ride & Local Crafts
We take a boat down the Mekong and then explore the far side of the river where we see pottery making in action in the village. After a nice ride through this area, we cross back to the town side and visit Ock Pop Tock where we learn about the life of silk and how it comes from a small worm to a beautifully woven garment.

Lao Lunch
We then head on to a restaurant for a meal of local Luang Prabang specialties. After lunch, we have a very short ride back to our shop where we finish. We estimate a finish time of 2 pm.

Please note: You must wear clothing that covers your shoulders and knees for temple visits. You can carry extra clothing that can be put on when we arrive at the temples.

Try out tasty Lao snacks along the way. Safe drinking water is also provided throughout the tour. Energy bars and local snacks are provided to keep your energy levels up for the riding, and clean water is always available to keep you well hydrated.

And then top it all off with a delicious Lao lunch to finish the tour. Lao food is an adventure in and of itself.
