Half Day Bike Tour in Phnom Penh

Just across the Mekong River from Phnom Penh, the Silk Islands are a step back in time. Cycle the quiet country roads in the late afternoon and evening to escape the bustle of the city.
Twilight provides the perfect time to experience a slice of Cambodia that is slowly giving way to urban growth and development. Weave along hidden trails past small farming communities, schools, pagodas and silk shops to offer a true glimpse into village life in the Cambodian countryside. Villages here thrive on the fertile soil to grow fruit and vegetables and then weave silk and cotton in between farming cycles. All of this can be found only 5km from the heart of Cambodia's capital city!
The riding is flat and easy for anyone who can ride a bike. Our guides take great care to ensure your safety while introducing you to the farmers and silk weavers who call these islands home.

Tour Itinerary

Start Time: 2 pm – End Time: 6:30 pm

Gather at the Grasshopper Shop

Meet at the Grasshopper Adventures shop at 2:00 pm (see map below) with your camera, sunscreen and some comfortable clothing. After your bike fitting, we board a van or Tuk Tuk to take us to one of the local ferry crossings.

Ferries & Cycling
After crossing the river just north of Phnom Penh by ferry, we hop on the bikes to start our scenic and relaxing 20-25 km (approx.) exploration of the Silk Islands, cycling along quiet back roads, our ride interspersed with short ferry trips between islands. On the islands, cycle through orchards and market gardens, enjoying the peaceful farmland and learning about the lives of the people who live here.

Back to the Bright Lights
Our island ride ends aboard another local ferry back to Phnom Penh, arriving into the center of town just after sunset, with the city dramatically ablaze with lights, a stunning contrast to the scenes we’ve just witnessed on the islands.

Farewell Noodles
When we reach the mainland, we'll head to a local noodle shop to enjoy a classic Khmer noodle dish for dinner. A stroll along the river promenade then brings us back to the Grasshopper shop, or you can grab a Tuk Tuk to return to your hotel. This tour concludes at approximately 6:30 pm depending on the speed of the group.

We cycle about 20-25 km on flat tracks and small roads. If you are comfortable on a bike both on and off paved roads you will be fine on this tour. There are some small tracks, possibly with sandy or muddy conditions (depending on the time of year and the weather) but only for small stretches. It’s always possible to walk these short distances if you find the conditions difficult.

WHAT’S INCLUDED

Well-maintained, quality imported GT mountain bikes with a water bottle and helmet are provided.

An experienced English speaking, local leader will host you on this trip who is well spoken, very knowledgeable, and charming. Our leaders are often cited as being the main highlight of the tour. We use local guides who have a passion for their country and are always well informed on topics ranging from history, politics, cuisine and importantly local customs and cultures. Our leaders will take pride in introducing you to every aspect of their country while keeping you safe and comfortable at all times.

A delicious classic Khmer noodle dish is included for dinner to finish off our evening.

This tour is guaranteed for a minimum of just 1 traveler. And we limit the group size to only 14 travelers so that you get all the attention you want in an intimate group.
