Overview

This tour is the perfect way to connect Bangkok and the beach. We travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin and onto the gulf islands by riding the backroads and trails. We stop at small towns you may never have heard of, where lovely beaches and boutique hotels await.

Gentle breezes, great food and a variety of activities, make for an educational, healthy holiday that is suitable for kids of all ages. Join this ride and top it off with a beach break on Koh Phangan, Koh Samui or head onwards to Phuket or Krabi.

This is a flat ride (only a few small hills) on back roads so it is achievable by anyone who can ride a bike for the distances involved (and if not just jump in the air-conditioned support vehicle for a rest). We have cut the distances down to kids' size so that the whole family can realistically ride a decent amount of each day. We take a slow and relaxed pace so this trip is well suited to those who enjoy traveling by bike, but aren't looking to break any personal records or anything.

Please Note - This tour is intended for families only. It is possible for us to schedule a private session of the same tour for adults, on request, at a nominal surcharge.

Deposit payment: $200 USD

Day to Day

Riding

After picking you up from your hotel in Bangkok, it is a 2-3 hour transfer to Hua Hin, the start of your ride. Today's ride is an easy one following back roads through small towns and along quiet coastline. In Pranburi, you'll stay in a comfortable resort right on the coast, well away from the bustle of Bangkok where you started the day.

We start the day with a boat ride out to the mangrove forest in the nearby National Park. This is a great place to see birdlife and to enjoy the quiet of the mangroves. There is a walk up to a cave on the headland and we then return to the pier where we start cycling. More quiet back roads and beaches await on this great day of riding. A highlight of the day is cycling past the stark limestone mountains of Sam Roi Yot National Park. If you are really lucky you might spot monkeys hanging out on the rocks. We take a drive in the afternoon to avoid the heat and to keep the distances manageable. Prachuap Khiri Khan sits on a beautiful curved beach and is a small relaxing provincial town which few tourists visit. This makes it a perfect place for us to stay!

Leaving Prachuap is a treat as we cycle through an Air Force base and over their runway to visit a colony of gentle langur monkeys. These cheeky, good-natured monkeys love to have visitors. Our guide is a favorite of theirs and can show you how to safely feed the monkeys a tasty and healthy snack. From here, we visit a nearby aquarium dedicated to the many fish species of the gulf. It really is an impressive place, and the location means that few foreigners get to visit. Once we start riding, we will pass through the narrowest part of Thailand, which is only 11km wide. You can see a ridge on your right that marks the border with Myanmar.
After arriving into Ban Krut, we take a drive inland to the Khi Buri National Park where we visit an Elephant Conservation site supported by WWF. You’ll learn about this great success story of wildlife conservation while seeing the elephants wandering around their sanctuary.

Today's ride will take you alongside more beautiful coastline and beaches but also through plantations of fruit and rubber. We'll make a stop at one rubber plantation to learn about the long process of taking the sap of the tree and turning it into car tires and other useful products. The ride ends a little before lunch and then we transfer to Chumphon, just north of the main town and ferry where you'll enjoy a last night on the Thai mainland.

It's an early morning to make it in time for the ferry to the island of your choice: Ko Tao, Ko Phangan or Ko Samui. When you arrive at the island we have a transfer arranged to take you to your hotel. If you would like to return to Hua Hin or Bangkok we can transfer you in our support vehicle.

Central, North & Northeast Thailand
This region of Thailand has three seasons: 'the cool', 'the hot' and 'the wet'. November to February is cool and dry (sometimes even chilly in the far north), with temperatures starting to rise in March to reach a peak in late April and May. The onset of the rains, in late May, helps to bring temperatures down, with showers being generally heavy but short.
