Overview

Known worldwide both as a center for wellness and spirituality, Sedona and Arizona is also an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts and cycle touring. On daily rides be surrounded by sandstone formations, hike through pueblo ruins and relax at night in stylish accommodations enjoying the modern flair of the sumptuous native cuisine.

We’ll explore ruins from the native Sinagua culture, discover the revitalized ghost town of Jerome and visit several national monuments defining the history of the region. Our experienced guides are exceptional at highlighting geological and historical wonders, and ready with the best recommendations for eating, and drinking, ensuring your Arizona adventure is also an appetizing one.

Though the local food scene may be overshadowed by the outdoors, creative chefs have elevated regional cuisine of the Sonoran desert to impressive heights. We'll make time for wine tasting at a beautiful vineyard and craft beer fans will discover refreshing local brews in both Cottonwood and Sedona.

Wide open spaces, outdoor adventures, inspirational and historical sites plus delicious meals surrounded by the native red rocks and canyons make Arizona and Sedona the perfect spot for the latest Grasshopper Adventure.

Good morning, Arizona! Meet your guides and fellow travelers at 8am today at the beautiful Civana Wellness Resort, just north of Phoenix. We’ll have a quick transfer to our ride’s start where we’ll get fitted to our bikes.

Today’s ride starts in northern Scottsdale before uniting with Sonoran Desert Drive. Large bike lanes and bike paths enable us to focus on the towering Saguaros, flowering Ocotillo, and abundant life of the Sonoran Desert. After a picnic lunch we start our transfer to Montezuma’s Castle National Monument. We’ll take time to tour and admire the rich Native American history and stunning ruins before continuing on to Cottonwood, Arizona which locals now refer to as ‘the heart of Arizona Wine Country. Tonight, our hotel sits in the heart of downtown and the charming Old Town district.

After a quaint, small-town breakfast in Cottonwood we cycle to Tuzigoot National Monument. Tuzigoot’s main attraction, a large Sinagua pueblo that has been excavated and stabilized. The pueblo features prime examples of pottery, baskets, tools, weavings and demonstrations of how these ancient farmers and craftsmen lived a thousand years ago!  From here we’re off to Jerome, a 19th-century mining town. Built on a 30-degree slope, many of Jerome’s buildings have been ravaged by fires or slipped downhill over time. A revised building code finally required structures to be made only of masonry. Today the town now hosts galleries featuring local artists, tasting rooms featuring Arizona wines and numerous historic buildings to explore on your own.

This afternoon we’ll experience one of Sedona’s famous vortexes. Millions flock to Sedona every year for a chance to experience this strange phenomenon. We’ll hike one of Sedona’s mesas offering incredible views and one of its most renowned vortexes.

Tonight, settle into your new lodgings which offer postcard views of red rock canyons and soak in the beauty of Sedona.

This morning join our private yoga and stretching class, offered each day while in Sedona. After breakfast we’ll prepare for a ride through western Sedona into wine country, ending in Page Springs. This family owned vineyard planted its first vines in 2004 and have been recognized not only for the quality of their wines, but also their sustainable growing practices. With a bubbling creek that winds through the vineyards, red rock formations in the background and lush greenery on their estate, you might not want to leave.  After lunch, we’ll tour the vineyard and make time for wine tasting.

This evening is yours to explore on your own. Our guides will bring you into the heart of downtown Sedona so you can shop, explore, and choose where to dine. Sedona has an eclectic mix of upscale and local dining, mixed with an old west charm. Don’t miss a chance to try a Prickly Pear margarita or jam!

After breakfast we start with a scenic drive on Iconic Arizona Route 89A through Oak Creek Canyon. Our drive takes us up and away from the red rocks of Sedona and into sprawling ponderosa pine forests that surround Flagstaff, Arizona. Today’s ride starts at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument nestled in the high desert.

Northern Arizona is dotted with the remains of cinder cone volcanoes that formed mountains much in the same way that volcanoes create islands in the Pacific. Sunset Crater erupted around the year 1085. During our ride today try to imagine how an eruption of this scale changed both the landscape and the lives of the indigenous people.  From Sunset Crater we ride north to Wupatki National Monument, once a bustling Native American trading destination and home to some incredible ruins. There’s time to walk and explore the ruins while your guides prepare a picnic lunch.

On returning to Sedona, this evening we’ll head into town for a celebration dinner to reminisce on new friends, new rides and a new perspective on Arizona and the Southwest.

We depart Sedona this morning for a short transfer to  Red Rock State Park, a 286-acre nature preserve with stunning scenery. Trails in the park wind through manzanita and juniper; green meadows are framed by native vegetation and hills of red rock. Oak Creek flows through the park, creating a riparian habitat filled with plants and wildlife.

Our guides lead us along a series of interconnecting trails. We discuss the geology of the Colorado Plateau and some of the fascinating adaptations that plants and animals have made to survive in this environment.  A picnic lunch in the park and then we’ll climb aboard our comfy van for the 2 hour transfer to Phoenix and Sky Harbor Airport. For those wishing to stay longer in Phoenix and Scottsdale, a drop off can be arranged.
